Lina and Jeff, July 14th
Lina and Jeff got married at
Robinswood House, a small but scenic estate in Bellevue. During the last wedding we photographed there, it rained unexpectedly (but luckily they had a tent for backup!). Rain was threatened briefly at Lina's wedding, but it did not materialize, and the weather turned out to be beautiful.
We took some pictures first at the
W Hotel where both Jeff and Lina got ready:

One of the most fun parts of the day, for me, is "playing" with the bride and groom, and getting some fun romantic shots. The first picture below is one of mine that I tried a new experiment in photoshop on it of adding texture. The master of this technique is the very inspirational
Jesh de Rox. Texture can add another dimension and, if used well, more meaning, to an image. In this picture, I used it to emphasize the drama of the foliage above them. The second couple shot is from Bob-- he really wanted to capture Lina and Jeff, and Robinswood House, and the dramatic sky. I like it because it feels very fashion-y to me.

I just love kids at weddings:

Lina and Jeff were very cute dancing together at the reception:

Congratulations, Jeff and Lina!

Brittany and Manuel, July 7th
Manuel and Brittany got married at the
Plateau Club in Sammamish, Washington. Both bride and groom seemed very relaxed and were able to enjoy their day, in part because everything was taken care of beautifully by the staff at the Club.
Here is their altar. Click on the next picture to make it larger-- the tiny people that you can see through the middle are the groomsmen, who were planting some daisies to make the view even more scenic:

Manuel is from Puerto Vallarta, and so they wanted their wedding to have a fiesta theme. Brittany and Manuel had so many unique little touches. One of them was the bride's necklace, which hung down her back. Her mother wore a necklace in the same style.

The flowergirls follow the rest of the group out for pictures:

I got tagged!
One of my fellow participants in the Anti-Workshop, and a super-friendly guy,
Dustin Steller, tagged me in his blog. I am supposed to list 8 things that you might not know about me and then tag 8 other bloggers to do the same. Of course, he had to tag me right in the middle of our busiest time ;). Taking a break, then, from editing pictures, here it goes:
Eight Things you might not know about me:
1. I majored in religious studies in college, with a focus on Eastern religions--
Buddhism, etc. I really liked finding out about different belief systems around the world.
2. I have a Masters degree in couple/family counseling from
Antioch. While it's great working with couples, I decided I would rather see them at the happier times in their lives :).
3. I have always been creative and loved photography. One of my first pictures was of my cat, in action (running). He looked kind of like a
kangaroo.
4. I love love love weddings. Ok, I guess everyone probably knows that one already. :)
5. My five-year-old is starting Kindergarten this Fall, and I am so sad and happy at the same time. I am sure he will do great-- he is so social, inquisitive, and intelligent. But he will be moving away from the safety and comfort of home, discovering his own life, world and friends. And that is a little bit hard.
6. Bob and I just celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary. We feel very lucky to have found each other. It seems like every year we find out new things about each other and fun ways to be together. Starting this photography business has been a real adventure, and I am so glad we did it.
7. I am a little bit of a TV addict. Some of my favorite shows right now are
Weeds,
The Riches,
Psych, and
The Simpsons (which I seem to have renewed affection for after seeing the movie). Since I do a lot of my work on the computer, I can watch my favorite shows at the same time ;).
8. Wedding photography has gotten me back in shape. Seriously. It must be all that lifting of heavy cameras, or squatting down to get just the right angle, or running around for 7 to 8 hours trying to capture every moment. I lose weight every wedding season, and feel great.

Anti-Workshop
I have been very slow in posting pictures from the
Anti-Workshop I attended in Seattle back in June. It was so much fun and a great learning experience too. I was surprised at how much information was shared freely by the presenters:
Chenin and Doug Boutwell, and
Dalisa and John Michael Cooper.
On the first day, our photographic exercise consisted of taking a pink blow-up pig all over Pike Place Market and telling a story about it in 10 pictures (it's not called the anti-workshop for nothing!). Our pig got engaged, and started choosing her wedding dress, shoes, etc. I don't have any pictures from that day, as we had to use a polaroid camera.
The second day, we split into groups and each had a "model" to play with. We had a list of the types of pictures to get, like good use of lines, or light, color. It was lots of fun. Our model, Margo, did a great job:

On the third day, we all got to go Underground. In Pioneer Square, there is an
Underground Tour, where you can explore the Seattle that used to be (now located under the city). We took our model couple down there, and Doug, Chenin and John showed us how they would work in that situation. Here are a few I shot during their explanations:

I was so exhausted after 3 days, but inspired also, not only by the presenters, but by all the other talented photographers attending the workshop.
(Don't forget, you can always click on any picture to see it larger.)

Leia and Will
Will and Leia are getting married on September 16th. We hung out with and photographed them at
Matthews Beach Park. They are a goofy couple who really seem to know how to have fun together.

We are looking forward to your wedding, Leia and Will!

Happy Anniversary, Amanda and Mike!
Amanda and Mike got married on August 5th, 2006, on
The Islander. Although Amanda and Mike live in Arkansas, Mike grew up near Seattle, and the couple want to move here. So, after Mike proposed to Amanda in
Gasworks Park, Amanda started planning her perfect wedding in Seattle.
Here is Mike, pre-ceremony, at a friend's apartment with a great view:

And Amanda, boarding The Islander, in infrared:

Their first dance, as reflected in the ship's window:

Amanda and Mike enjoy a moment together at the end of their wedding:

Amanda and Mike had a crystal bowl full of
Hematite stones. Their guests were to choose a stone and infuse it with their best wishes for the couple. The newleyweds keep this crystal bowl on their mantelpiece to remind them of the support of their friends and family for their union. It was a meaningful way to include the guests in their celebration. Here is a still-life I created using the stones:

The wedding was planned and coordinated by Keri of
Bliss Events, who did a beautiful and professional job.
Congratulations on one-year together and here is to your happily ever after, Mike and Amanda!
