Claudia and Rafe, September 6th

Claudia and Rafe had such a unique wedding. It was at Thornwood Castle, a beautiful, grand old manor in Lakewood.

I love these two pre-ceremony pictures. I was with Claudia, and got the shot of her on the staircase, while Bob was outside and took the cute picture of the girls with the statue.

Their ceremony was in the gorgeous gardens:

After the ceremony, Rafe and Claudia went on a romantic carriage ride, driven by Emerald Country Carriages. I rode in the front and took pictures of the happy, newly-married couple:

Claudia and Rafe had a caricaturist (Steve Hartley of All About Faces Entertainment) at their wedding, which the guests absolutely loved. It also gave people something to do during the cocktail hour.

Sarah and Jack, August 3rd

Sarah and Jack got married on a beautiful August day at Lord Hill Farms in Snohomish. They met cute online, and felt a bond almost immediately. They planned a relaxed wedding, but were a little worried about integrating their two families. Although they felt like they came from very different backgrounds, both of their families were so full of joy and life (and dancing) that I felt their spirits were actually more similar than different.

Gretchen and Jeremy, August 2nd

Gretchen and Jeremy met at a coffee shop. They happened to sit at the same table, and then both returned the next week. The rest, as they say, was history.

Their wedding, at the All Pilgrims Church on Broadway in Capital Hill, was full of color and joy.

Jeremy and Gretchen were great to hang out with. They were not afraid to experiment and do something a little different. I really enjoy shooting downtown-- I feel like the urban atmosphere inspires my creativity.

Erin and Matt, July 27th

Erin and Matt got married on a gorgeous day in late July at Hidden Meadows in Snohomish. They planned an outdoor ceremony but, as it threatened rain in the morning, they moved the chairs inside. Then, the sun came out, and they had the chairs moved outside again. The weather turned out to be just right, just a little bit overcast to make the pictures look great :).

The guys do "reservoir dogs:"

Matt and Erin saw each other for the first time before the ceremony and had a little couple time. Erin's simple but beautiful dress was from Cynderellies Closet.

During the reception, the closeness of the bride and groom to their families and friends become evident. Erin's Dad gave one of the most special toasts I have ever heard-- it even made me cry.

The catering at the reception was by Pyramid and the music by "Otto-Matic" Otto Olson.

We ran out at the end of evening to catch the sunset over the railroad tracks. It was a perfect end to a perfect day:

KK and Rowan, July 26th

KK and Rowan got married at the gorgeous Cathedral of St John the Evangelist in Spokane. It was such an amazing place-- it made me feel like I was in Europe, at a centuries old cathedral.

They decided to have their first meeting before the ceremony, in a scenic little courtyard beside the church:

Their ceremony was personal and thoughtful. I loved the intimacy of their ceremony, in such a grand place.

The reception was at the Glover Mansion, and they had over 150 guests in attendance. The mansion had a really cool style, with the tables set up on both floors, in multiple rooms, as well as the outdoor balcony.

Here are KK and Rowan playing a game at the reception where they both answer questions such as "who cleans up more about the house?" by raising a shoe, without being able to see each other's answers. It was entertaining for bride and groom as well as their guests.

KK and Rowan are both excellent swing dancers, and their wedding had a 1920's theme. KK's gorgeous dress had a great style and their band (6 Foot Swing) was so much fun.

Naomi and Richard Got Married. . .

. . . and then had a really fun photo shoot. Although Naomi and Richard had already officially gotten married, they wanted to have a bride and groom portrait session. First we went to Kerry Park, then the Rose Garden at Woodland Park Zoo and finally, Golden Gardens, and took lots and lots of romantic pictures. One of my favorite things about Richard and Naomi was that they seemed to feel totally relaxed and safe with each other, like they could really let down their guard and be themselves.

Claudia and Rafe

We will be photographing Claudia and Rafe's wedding tomorrow at Thornwood Castle, but a couple of weeks ago, we got to go out with them to Volunteer Park to take some fun engagement pictures. Volunteer Park has lots of great picture opportunities right there in front of the Seattle Asian Art Museum (where Bob and I got married :)).

Kara and Peter, July 5th

Kara and Peter met in kickboxing class. I got the feeling that neither of them expected to find love, and then all of a sudden, there it was. They had their ceremony on Kara's parent's property in Woodinville-- a gorgeous place out amongst the farmland. Kara and Peter are a gentle and loving couple, quirky and expressive.

They had their first meeting on the photogenic bridge across the pond:

Kara sang a beautiful song to Peter during the ceremony. Kara's two boys participated in the ceremony, not only being in charge of the rings, but also helping to pour the sand mixture that symbolized their relationship. They were very interested in and did a great job during the ceremony.

Kara loves frogs, and their frog theme suited the setting perfectly. I couldn't resist a portrait of a frog holding up their rings. The kids also loved the frog theme.

Kara's Dad's workshed was transformed into a perfect little dance space, where Kara, Peter and their guests danced the night away.

Happy Anniversary, Mariana and Dan!

Mariana and Dan had a wonderful ceremony and reception at The Woodmark Hotel. The girls started in one of the hotel's huge rooms (also the honeymoon suite). Each of the bridesmaids had a dress in a different style and color, which looked great. They all seemed to match effortlessly.

Mariana carried her grandmother's bouquet, which had been preserved for over 25 years!

Olivia and Andy, May 17th

Olivia and Andy's day was so filled with love and happiness that the time just seemed to fly by. The day started with me photographing Olivia preparing at the couple's apartment, while Bob hung out with Andy and the guys downtown. After a couple of pictures in the gorgeous lobby of their building (where Olivia showed her proficiency with a pool cue), we travelled to Kubota Gardens for Olivia and Andy's "first look." Andy was so wowed by Olivia, and they spent a few minutes just catching up and enjoying each other while Bob and I took pictures (please click on any picture to see it larger).

Their flowergirl, although shy in front of the camera, was so cute. She was very intent on picking up all the flower petals that had been strewn on the grass :). Although Olivia and Andy had a tent and umbrellas just in case, they had glorious, glorious weather. They had a small personal ceremony, with their friends and family sitting around them in a circle. They had two officiants-- Andy's Aikido sensei and Olivia's advisor from her graduate program. Andy's mom and Olivia's dad also spoke at their wedding, as well as Olivia's maid of honor and Andy's best man. All of the speeches were so touching, and made the event more personal for and relevant to the couple.

After the ceremony, Andy and Olivia travelled to the reception site in a stylish vintage vehicle. I got to go with them and take pictures. This part of the day, right after the ceremony, is one of my favorite times for pictures as the emotions from the ceremony are so present. Olivia and Andy were adorable together in the back of the car.

We arrived at the Seattle World Trade Center for the reception. Andy and Olivia had made their unique guestbook, as well as a "placecard lamp." The table settings were beautiful and unique, each with a different word for a value important to the couple. They sat at the "LOVE" table, of course.

The guests enjoyed the cocktail hour, and then the couple was announced.

I just loved the map on the ceiling in this room-- it so perfectly symbolized the unity of this couple-- from different places of the world, but in the same place in their hearts.

Rebecca and Jesse got married at the The Woodland Park Zoo, in the Butterfly Garden. It was a little rainy that day, so we had to get extra creative and take pictures by the jaguar cage, where there was shelter, and also on the merry-go-round.
